The biggest marketing trend in 2023
Hey 👋
This year, we've had the pleasure of helping a handful of startups with their marketing and content strategy. The great thing about being able to dabble in multiple industries is that you start to notice patterns.
This is why we always recommend every marketer work at a marketing agency at least one time in their career — you get exposed to so much in such little time.
What we noticed this year is that many startups, especially those who are VC-backed, all had a similar goal.
And this goal is a trend we are predicting to see in 2023.
Do you know what it is?
It's a race to $0 CAC.
Startups are realizing that paid advertising is getting more expensive and they're looking for alternative ways to grow. Now, while reaching a $0 cost to acquire a customer is nearly impossible (given time and resources will always need to be invested), what we are noticing is brands thinking about long-term sustainable growth.
Building a community, leveraging content marketing and SEO, and focusing on retaining more users by plugging holes in a leaky funnel are just a few things brands will continue to put more effort into in 2023.
In fact, Marketing Dive's article (first link in the news section) shows our prediction may be true — companies are pulling their ad budgets and looking for organic ways to drive demand.
But this goal to organic growth is not the only trend we are seeing. In fact, we released our first Annual Marketing Trends Report where we talked about 23 trends we predict to see in 2023.
Be sure to give it a read!

Riddle answer: A yardstick
Editors note: Thank you for subscribing in 2022. Truly, I thank you with all my heart. The Marketer Milk newsletter started just this year and it's been amazing to see this community grow to thousands of marketers. As we head into the new year, I hope you take time to reflect on what you've learned this year. For me, I had a lot of personal/emotional pain this year. But I learned that pain is a powerful teacher, and the more I lean into, and listen to, that pain the closer I get to my purpose. As cheesy as it sounds, we all bleed the same color. We all feel euphoria, pain, excitement, anxiety, clarity, and whatever feelings the human body is designed to feel. I hope you realize that you are not alone. Whether you lost a job this year, lost a person close to you, or you're anxious from all the news about an economic downturn in 2023, just know that you are apart of a collective human consciousness. Our ancestors have lived through some of the darkest times in history — and here we are, still standing to this day. As you enter 2023, know that you are much stronger than you believe yourself to be. If you're a marketer, focus on honing in skills that will make you valuable in the new year. But also don't forget to step away from your computer and have fun. Enjoy yourself. Something in 2023 is waiting for you, and it could be greater than you ever thought possible. Keep going. I know I will. Much love, see you in 2023!
