Oh, hi there π
There's a trend with tech companies buying media companies.
The Hustle acquired by HubSpot. Product Hunt acquired by AngelList. Indie Hackers acquired by Stripe.
So now, tech companies are deciding to build their own media companies.
Unfortunately, there's one thing many of them get wrong (as it pertains to SEO).
When you create for Google, you have to always remember that Google's goal is to end the search journey for a user as quickly as possible.
Good: Someone searches for something on Google -> Clicks a link -> Checks out the page -> Leaves Google.
Bad: Someone searches for something on Google -> Clicks a link -> Presses the back button -> Clicks on a different link
In the case of the "bad" situation, it means that the company that created the initial page did not serve the user's search intent.
So, if you're creating for SEO, the first thing you should do is Google the keyword you're trying to target and simply observe what Google likes to show in the top results.
Is it a "how to" guide? Is it a list-style roundup? Is it a blog post? Is it a landing page? Whatever you see is what you need to create.
For example, if you wanted to target the keyword "website templates" then you better create a landing page with a wide variety of website templates. If you create a blog post titled "10 best website templates to check out," or worse, "How to create a website template," you best believe it will never see the first page of Google for the term "website templates."
So remember this, if you're investing in SEO, search intent is the number one most important thing to get right.
